Etra Studio Tommasi

Five centuries ago, in a garden along Via della Pergola, Benvenuto Cellini casted the statue of Perseus holding the head of Medusa now standing under the Loggia dei Lanzi in Piazza della Signoria. In the early 1970s, a sculptor Marcello Tommasi purchased that “workshop” and infused it with new artistic life. He worked there for over forty years, leaving a rich collection of sculptures, paintings, and etchings behind. The workshop’s architectural style and configuration of furniture have remained unchanged, creating a fil rouge that connects the sixteenth century to our present time. In 2014, Studio Tommasi opened a space dedicated to contemporary painters and sculptors and aimed to promote and carry on the great figurative art tradition; it has become a gathering place for artists, hosting concerts, presentations and workshops.
