A game in 10 simple steps
Paintings are visual poems to be read as texts based on the use of colors in place of words. That is why the Uffizi Gallery is ideal for families with children who want to discover the highlights of one of the world’s greatest museums. Let’s start with the Botticelli Room: the Allegory of Spring and Birth of Venus will leave you speechless, no matter what age you are. The Diptych of Duke Federico da Montefeltro and Duchess Battista Sforza of Urbino by Piero della Francesca always captures children’s attention, as the two figures are portrayed in profile. Then come The Battle of San Romano by Paolo Uccello and the Medusa by Caravaggio for a journey through Greek mythology, and the Doni Tondo, a quite unusual nativity scene. The gold of the Adoration of the Magi by Gentile da Fabriano must have a hypnotic effect, as even the little ones can’t take their eyes off the painting. It is impossible not to go round the double-sided Dwarf Morgante painting by Bronzino. And one last thing… you might have a hard time keeping the kids from running through the spectacular Niobe Room and hallways!
