Locchi Photographic Archives

Tullio Locchi and Silvano Corcos were war photographers and official royal photographers. No local event worth being documented had ever escaped their attention. In the distant years from the advent of television, three large shop windows in Piazza della Repubblica provided Florentines with photo-reportage. The Archives have been Florence’s historical memory from 1934 to the present day with 5 million pictures, which represent a prestigious collection of images in-between reportage and art photos. The black and white pictures convey the atmosphere and spirit of Florence at the time when celebrities from all over the world flocked to the city. Today, Erika Ghilardi, a direct descendant of the family, curates what may be considered a “world heritage”.
