Power and Measure

It was the symbol of the Medici family’s political and cultural supremacy. Cosimo de’ Medici commissioned the construction of this imposing palace, choosing Michelozzo’s project over Brunelleschi’s, which seemed too ostentatious for a powerful man who wished to appear fair and measured. And not only Michelozzo designed one of the most beautiful examples of civil Renaissance architecture, but he personally chose all the stones required to build it. The rings that the architect engraved on the blocks are still visible on the building’s rusticated façade. If you wish to discover other wonders, such as the Procession of the Magi by Benozzo Gozzoli, just walk inside and let yourself be carried away by centuries of history.
