Nobility and Secrets
Palazzo Pitti’s main floor is the symbol of the city’s most glorious times. In these rooms, art has been closely interwoven with the stories and secrets of three major dynasties: the Medici, Lorraine and Savoia families- for centuries. The Royal Apartments, located between the Yellow Room and the Queen’s Rooms, housed what was known as Ferdinando de’ Medici’s alcove. A strong-tempered, unconventional, libertine and society man, the Grand Duke met with his mistresses in these rooms, amidst very precious works of art. Above the bed, a raised study hidden behind a gilded and carved wooden grate is still visible today. Only one of the many stories worth discovering in these noble rooms.
