The Guardian of Beauty

Monsignor Verdon has been living in Italy for over 50 years and in Florence since 1994. He is an art historian and a Catholic priest. He has been fond of Florence ever since he was a student at Yale. He is one of the “founding fathers” and current director of the new Opera del Duomo Museum, and foremost the driving force behind one of the city’s greatest art treasures. Among the museum’s masterpieces are the full-scale replica of the original façade of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Pietà by Michelangelo and the St. Mary Magdalene by Donatello. Listening to Verdon tell the wonders of the Duomo, the museum and Florence’s hidden gems is simply enchanting.
